And at the End: Kuala Lumpur

India, China, and some excursions

Being in Kuala Lumpur it is not clear at all in what country you are...There is little India, Chinatown and many other nationalities, who are adding there culture into the big melting pot. Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia's vibrant capital, is known for its diverse population, including significant Indian and Chinese communities. During the British colonial period in the 19th and early 20th centuries, the British brought in large numbers of Chinese and Indian laborers to work in Malaysia. The Chinese were primarily brought in to work in the tin mines, while the Indians were brought in to work on rubber plantations, in the railways, and in other infrastructure projects. Both the Chinese and Indian communities have retained their cultural practices, languages, and traditions, which are evident in Kuala Lumpur’s cultural landscape. Festivals like Chinese New Year, Deepavali, and Thaipusam are celebrated widely. It should not be missed when in KL, to visit "little India" and "Chinatown".

Apart from this, I was a bit lazy after all....and just treated myself to the "Hop on Hop off" bus. With a sugar-free lemonade I explored the city from "above" without being directly exposed to the new chaos, smells and buzzle of the capital.

Another must-visit are the Batu Caves. The Batu Caves are a renowned limestone hill in Gombak, Selangor, (30 min. from KL) featuring a series of caves and cave temples. They are one of the most popular Hindu shrines outside of India and are dedicated to Lord Murugan. The Batu Caves are an important pilgrimage site for Hindus, especially during the annual Thaipusam festival. The main cave, known as Cathedral Cave or Temple Cave, houses several Hindu shrines and statues. Visitors must climb 272 steep, colorful steps to reach the Temple Cave, which is the main cavern. The steps are often bustling with pilgrims and tourists, and the area is inhabited by macaque monkeys.
